The Career Choice Series is designed to help you choose your career path. Whether you’re a law student, young lawyer, or transitioning attorney, find out what it’s like to work in various practice areas and the best way to position yourself to get there.

In this segment, our speakers will discuss their respective practices as a general practitioner either as a small firm attorney or solo practitioner.

David H. Lefton is a partner in the law firm of Barron Peck Bennie & Schlemmer in Cincinnati, Ohio. Although his practice is focused on estate planning, David has a breadth of experience handling a variety of other legal issues including advising for-profit and non-profit start-ups and established businesses on their organization, operations and transactions; representing home buyers and sellers; and helping injured victims of motor vehicle accidents.

Andrea G. Van Leesten is a solo practitioner in Culver City, California (located in Los Angeles County), where she practices estate planning, probate and administration, and elder law. Additionally she serves as a mediator in probate matters and as an ADR mediator.

Our speakers will share with you their career paths, provide invaluable insight into what skills you’ll need to get started as a general practitioner in a small firm or as a solo, what drew them to their respective fields, the pros and cons, and what a typical day in their practice entails.
