What is mindset and why does it matter? Recent advances in neuroscience show that the brain is malleable, and given the right amount of effort, focus and commitment, we can make significant and often dramatic improvements in our performance and productivity. Join us for an interactive hour during which we will describe the difference between a fixed and a growth mindset, and share recent research—undertaken by the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession—about the many ways in which mindset impacts success in all spheres of practice, from solo practitioners to in-house counsel to lawyers working in the largest law firms in the world. Participants will have a chance to assess their own mindset, to engage in an exercise designed to get them thinking deeply about these concepts, and to learn about the common habits and pitfalls that serve as growth mindset interrupters. At the end of the session, participants will understand how best to leverage these important concepts to advance their careers.
